Symptoms of Low Blood Pressure

The symptoms of low blood pressure (or hypotension) are easy to recognize, unlike the symptoms of high blood pressure which are for the most part absent (hence why people refer to hypertension as the “silent killer”). These low blood pressure symptoms appear when the blood pressure has gone to some pretty low levels. Since the low blood pressure can be caused by an underlying condition, doctors must find out the cause of this and search for any problems that might be triggering this.

There are some cases when blood pressure suddenly drops. This can be a sign of an underlying condition; you’ll have to go through medical examination to check what it could be. The classic symptoms of low blood pressure are:

  • Trouble keeping focused, anxiety
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness often accompanied by nausea, confusion
  • Thirst
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • A sudden cold feeling or change in skin tone to a paler tone
  • Fainting
  • Changes in breathing patterns (episodes of low blood pressure present with fast breathing)

According to doctors the value of blood pressure for these symptoms to appear, should be of 90/60 in average. But if the blood pressure drops suddenly, you don’t need to go to those levels to start feeling the symptoms.

Here’ it is also good to mention that the levels of blood pressure will vary from individual to individual. The symptoms appear really when things start failing within your body, in this specific case, when you don’t have the necessary pressure to allow blood flow to all your organs. Other factors that affect your normal blood pressure levels are the age and body size. Smaller people like for example children have lower normal blood pressure levels.

If you present any of the mentioned symptoms, you must go visit a doctor for low blood pressure treatment, because symptoms indicate a problem (of blood flow to the organs) in special if you present dizziness and fainting.

Emergency attention is required if you experience fainting, nausea, numbness and chest pain, as this may indicate the beginning of a stroke or a heart attack or even problems with the nervous system. If you feel these symptoms call 911 or have someone help you, don’t just stay there hoping things will be back to normal, remember that this can prove to be fatal.

With the help of a doctor you can find a proper treatment – if needed. You can find all about treatments on the different sections of our site.
